Celebrating the life of

William Alexander (Alex) Brannen, III

October 18, 1947 - November 16, 2023

William Alexander (Alex) Brannen, III

William Alexander Brannen III – “Alex” – passed away quietly on the evening of November 16th, 2023.

He was born October 18th, 1947 in Savannah, GA, to Savannah natives William Alexander Brannen, Jr. and Dorothy Schuster Brannen. His younger brother (predeceased) was John Schuster Brannen.

Sparking a series of international adventures and relationships, Alex married Watffa Saide Jattin Chadid from Lorica, Colombia. He is survived by his son, William (Billy) Alexander Brannen IV; daughter, Salua Mariana Brannen; grandchildren Niina Saide, Felipe Elías Hikaru, Aisha Alessandra, Mana Salwa, and Sasha Valentina Muna; niece, Jessica Brannen; daughter-in-law, Miwa Brannen; and sister-in-law, Cam Mathis Brannen; among many family members in Colombia, USA, and Japan. He is also survived by his cherished pet, Riley.

Alex graduated from Jenkins High School and earned a degree in Business Administration from Armstrong State College. He worked for various airlines in South Florida where he met his wife Watffa and later married in Barranquilla, Colombia. He resided most of his life in Savannah where he retired as an office professional.

Alex was fluent in Spanish and had traveled to Colombia, England, and Japan. He dearly loved dogs and enjoyed science fiction, aeronautical interests, and US history.

In his twilight years he was an active member of various local political organizations. He attended Lake Mayer Church of Christ.
Anyone who became his friend soon learned his favorite catch phrase: "What is the only word in the English language that spells ‘GOD’ backwards? DOG!"

Daddy–we believe you are now healthy, happy, and whole with your beloved Watffa, brother, ancestors (and pets!); your memory will always remain happy and vibrant in our hearts.

We love you.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Lake Mayer Church of Christ, 1813 East Montgomery Crossroads, Savannah, GA.  Burial will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery, 330 Bonaventure Road, Savannah, GA 31404.
